About

Hi, I'm Charles.

I'm a Long Island accountant with a B.A. in Accounting from Queens College and a background in nonprofit accounting: accounts receivable, billing and the detail-heavy month-end work where accuracy isn't optional.

I started Steady Margins Accounting to bring that same care to small business owners. When you work with Steady Margins, you work with me. The person who reconciles your accounts is the same person who answers your email, explains your reports and hands a clean year-end package to your tax preparer.

FAQ

Good questions, straight answers.

Ask a question
Do you only work with businesses in Suffolk County?

Suffolk County is home base, and I'm glad to meet in person across Long Island. Because the work runs on secure cloud software, I can also support businesses elsewhere in New York over video.

What accounting software do you use?

I'm certified in both QuickBooks Online and Xero, and most clients use one of the two. If you're on something else, or still on spreadsheets, we'll figure out the best fit during your consultation, and I can set up or migrate your books if a switch makes sense.

I'm months (or years) behind. Is that a problem?

Not at all. It's one of the most common reasons owners reach out. Catch-up work is quoted up front after a free review of where things stand. Once you're current, we move to a simple monthly routine.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. My focus is accurate, tax-ready books. At year-end you'll get a clean package with financial statements, adjusting entries, a 1099 summary and supporting schedules, and I'll coordinate directly with your tax preparer so filing goes smoothly.

How do I get you my documents?

Bank and credit card feeds connect directly to your accounting software, so most transactions arrive automatically. Receipts and statements can be uploaded through secure file sharing or snapped with your phone.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Monthly services are month-to-month, and you can pause or cancel with 30 days' notice.
